March Madness is the time of the year where people go online
during work or school to check the scores and highlights of what happened in a
particular day. There is so much activity
on social media that happens during this time and many updates appear on
Facebook and Twitter. This helps these
sites as many different people use the sites more than often to look for
updates of the scores and to see what other people think about the comments
from a particular game. Individuals also
share amazing links to outstanding dunks or buzzer beaters which can gain likes
or be shared with a great amount of other people.
This year’s Cinderella story was Florida Gulf Coast and
Wichita State who performed well above average.
With wins over top ranked basketball teams and players who rose to the
occasion, these teams’ flooded social media with amazing stories and textbook upsets.
News and information about this type of basketball, increases people’s use of
social media because they are interested in what their friends say about these
teams and whether or not the brackets they filled out are busted or
treasured.
Brackets are another source of social media as people talk
about what teams they hope will win a game and whether or not higher seeds will
beat a lower seed in a basketball game. There are also advertising on the brackets
which can be traced back to Facebook or Twitter which increases the publicity
of a certain bracket. All this information helps people come together and
connect with each other in a way such as socializing even if it is through
sports teams and complicating on who will win a basketball game. Without March Madness there would be less
people on Social Media sites and less activity with what goes on during the
month of the tournament. This is a great
example of how something so little can be used by millions to come together and
socialize.
