Should Women Be Allowed To Compete With Men in Sports?
I do not believe women should try to compete with men in sports. The main reason is because women just are not as strong and tall as men. It is not fair for women to have to compete against men who are one hundred pounds heavier and much taller than they are. Some women are just as skilled as men but simply do not have the physical attributes that men do. Some sports such as bowling or billiards that do not require a lot of strength, should be able to be co-ed. Women have just as good as a chance to beat men in those sports. But when it comes to basketball, baseball, or football there should be no question that women should not be playing with men. Some people think that Brittney Griner, a women's basketball player at Baylor University, should play in the NBA. Even some NBA owners think that she could play in the NBA. She has a very special skill set and is very good and in the women's basketball. Even though she is six foot eight, I still do not think she would be very successful playing men's professional basketball. I think she would benefit a lot if she stayed playing women's basketball.
Women should just compete against other women in contact
sports so that they are on a level playing field. They should work to promote
women’s sports as exciting, competitive events in themselves. For non-contact
sports, I think it should be a level playing field and that women should be
able to compete with men.
How Much is Too Much Gaming?
I do not think there is a problem with playing video games, just not
for a long period of time. There are some positive feedback from playing
video games. Well-designed video games are natural teachers that provide immediate feedback on the player’s success by distributing
reinforcements and punishments, assist in learning at different rates,
and offer
opportunities to practice to the point of mastery. Video games also can adapt themselves to individual
learners and train players in a way that helps them transfer knowledge
or skills to the real world.
I believe that twenty-one billion hours of gaming per week is not the answer to save the world. Playing video games too much could lead to a number of physical consequences like headaches, backaches, sleep disturbances, and eating regularities. Seizures are also a scary event that can come from playing video games too often. We are in a society where we encourage children to get out and play and be physically active, not stay inside and play video games.
Parents have an important role to play to ensure that the negative or harmful effects of video games do not outweigh the positive ones. They can limit the amount of time fro playing and also take into account the rating of video games while purchasing them. Parents can also participate in the game and discuss the harmful effects violence and aggression. Children and teenagers should be encouraged to participate in other games and activities so that they do not get addicted to video games.

Masculinity
Masculinity is seen in a lot of places and in many different situations. If you are not fast enough or strong enough in sports, you will not make the team. If men are not masculine enough then they are probably going to be considered homosexual. I do not feel like men need to be masculine but it is what the media portrays as being normal for men. On the other side, if women are to masculine then the media will look at them as being too manly like the track star that we discussed in class. I wish that everyone was looked at the same and not have so many people judging each other just for how we look. Nobody knows how masculine you will be when you are just a little kid. Sometimes, depending on where you grow up can determine how masculine you can be.
I truly believe that people can benefit from growing up in a masculine or hyper-masculine city like Chicago. Some people will say that they would not be intimidated going into a city like that, but until you experience it I do not think you should say that you would not be intimidated. Just hearing stories from other classmates about how they grew up having to be masculine in order to "fit in" no matter what gender you are. I think the people that grew up in this lifestyle are better fit to handle some of the physical challenges in life because of having to teach yourself to be stronger when it comes to certain situations.
