I have always wondered who has the say of what is and who is
“cool”, not only this but who gets to set the bar. Who is the person that says you must where
this, act like this, and do this t be “cool” and only when you do all of these
things you will finally fit in to the cool group. Not only this but when did the term “hipster”
come about and who was the first person to say it? Why do so many people have
this need to be a hipster? But of course you can only be a hipster if you make
it seem like you are not trying to be a hipster. Purposely going out of your
way to wear this, drink that, and overall
acting like this appearance of “cool” simply comes natural with no effort when
in reality said “hipster” is spending a lot of money to look like they did not
spend any money. To me it’s a mind-boggling that people are still stuck in the “high
school” faze of trying to please other people and fit in. As we discussed in
class, how can they be hipsters if there are so many of them? I decided to talk
about this subject for the soul reason that I believe our campus to be filled
with these so called “hipsters”. For example, as I walk to and from class I
always pay attention to my surroundings and I notice all of these so called “hipsters”
wearing thick black framed glasses that might not even have actual lenses in
them, and if they do sometimes the lenses in these glasses are simply clear
plastic. Along with the whole “hipster” look it is a must that you spend
hundreds of dollars on a bicycles to make it “unique” by making it a fixed gear
bike. Which, to me makes absolutely no sense at all, why would you spend more
money on a bike to make it harder to ride? Well the answer is simple, by doing
all of this and dressing like that you become cool… isn’t it so obvious?? But
of course if all of this does not make you cool, wearing a cotton or wool cap
just barely resting on top of your head will surely make you cool… DUH.
