Food Inc.
The food Inc. video that we watched in class really opened my eyes to what some of these animals go through before being slaughtered for our food. I have always been an animal lover of all kinds, and it breaks my heart to see how some of these animals are treated. These animals are giving their lives so that we can live, and I would like to see them being treated with way more respect. The people at the slaughter houses should be treating these animals like royalty up until it is time for them to give their lives so that we can have food. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but watching this video has given me a great deal of respect for vegetarians and a better understanding of why they choose a meatless lifestyle. Also, learning about all the extra additives that are being put in to the meat that we eat has really made me wonder how healthy it really is. It makes me wonder what kinds of long-term health affects it could possibly have on the human body. The local farmers market is sounding way more appetizing to me at this point. My uncle has been a farmer his whole life, and I remember him telling me that the less stressed an animal is before it gives his life the better the meat will be. He said that if an animal has a good life, and dies happy, that the meat will be way better than if the animal was in a stressful situation. He said that all the stress causes the animal to tense up, and that causes the meat tough and not tender. If all the suffering we are causing these animals makes our food taste worse than why are we doing it. Why not treat these animal with the respect that they deserve, and have a more delicious product in the end!!
