Women Are Funny

After yesterdays class, I found it quite evident on how irrational the majority of society is. For someone to question whether women are funny or not is pretty ridiculous. I mean, why would women not be funny? I would find it pretty rare for someone to say there has never been a women that made them laugh. Think about it. Through all the hundreds of TV sitcoms that have aired, a female classmate that occasionally cracked a joke in class, or even your mom making you laugh as a child.

On the other hand, why would somebody even question if females are funny or not? Although there are very limited answers that come to my ming, one is that maybe the person who wrote that book stating that women are not funny is somewhat sexist. Maybe he was just dumped by the love of his life and was feeling rebellious against the opposite gender at the time? I will never know.

On the other hand, women can be whatever they desire to be whether that be in congress, a police chief, and at the least funny. I have much confidence that many people will view this subject as outrageous due to the fact the it definitely is. I know for a fact that in my life I have found some of the most funny situations I have witnessed involved women, mostly my girlfriend. I find her to be quite funny and I enjoy the fact that I do. I am blessed to not have an extremely distorted view on females as the man who wrote the book about how women are not funny.

How to make a guido

Today I was quite bored. After finishing up with classes, I decided to reunite myself with the MTV show Jersey Shore. I have always been a fan of the show since the start of the first season. I found the show very amusing at first to think that these people actually took themselves seriously but then I found it to be entertaining in that I was excited to see what would happen the next episode. Anyway, while watching the show, I remembered that Dr. McCauliff said that she absolutely despises the whole cast of Jersey Shore. This makes me wonder. Why is it that so many people do not like the Jersey Shore class? This can most likely be answered in many ways. For example, they get into fights. Both genders on the show have an uncontrollable urge to have sex with anything that has a pulse. The guys care more about their appearance than anything else going on in their lives. Etc. After watching a few episodes, I realized that all of these pile up into a big message to our nations youth. Because MTV is a public tv channel, children of any age could tune into the show and see what Snooky will do next while heavily intoxicated. These individuals on the cast of Jersey Shore easily influence youth in very many bad ways. Young girls and boys both perceive the cast as “these is how people in their early 20’s should act.” This, ladies and gentlemen, is a very disturbing fact. Hopefully, children are or are soon to be taught how the media can have a negative influence on them at an early age. 

The He/She Runner

I found today's class to be very profound. Although the speaker was great in everything that she did, she gave a very biased opinion to the subject. The main problem I have with today's class is that people are missing the big picture. It is not the fact that she is a girl that officials questioned her gender, it is the fact that she won and beat everybody by at least 50 meters. When a women has broader shoulder than I do at 6'5" and an extremely deep voice, her body is obviously producing far more testosterone than the average female and all the other females that she was competing against. I find it quite valid that officials tested her not only that she is a male, but that she could be taking performance enhancing drugs. If she is in fact a girl, and she was not using performance enhancing drugs, then what is the problem? Too many people get butt hurt when we question anything about females who are successful. The reaction of the public when Lance Armstrong tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, the public was ashemed. If the runner had tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, people would find that the officials were "sexist" because they questioned her performance due to the fact that she was a girl.

On the other hand, I found the speaker to be in favor of anything regarding females. She never considered what the situation looked like from the sports officials point of view. I think if the sports officials had never tested her sex or if she was on performance enhancing drugs, the media and society would demand it anyway.

Yes, I realize that the media does in fact commonly provide a sexist point of view, but I feel that sometimes we blow things way out of proportion. There are many people in this class that fuel this.

Those gosh darn hipsters...

I must say, the hipster presentation in class was quite amusing. I could not help but notice that we had very many hipsters attending the class. After this lecture, I started to wonder. Do hipsters act so non-conformist because they want to stand out? Do they feel the need to only drink Pabts Blue Ribbon and ride neon bikes because they like to? As some people would state that the "hipster" style is non-conformist, I want to make it clear that I feel the opposite. The hipster style is not becoming a trend, but is one now. I think why people buy the things they do and act in a certain way is because they want to conform to the hipster style. But on a different note, people have the freedom to conform to any style they wish and should not be hassled when they do so. Although I do find somebody in the Atrium using a typewriter taking it a bit far. They obviously do not use a typewriter out of connivence because we have come a long way since then.

On the other hand, we may have a little "hipster" in us. I must state that I do enjoy drinking Starbucks and wearing flannel. I also enjoy having a little facial hair as well. But does this label me hipster? No. And that is just that. "Hipster" is a label that some wish to have and others just get it tagged to them. I think it is evident to say that most individuals who dress like a hipster enjoy to have that label. Maybe because they will be accepted to a certain crowd. Or maybe they do so because they like certain things that most hipsters like and later just conform to the stereotype.

Im Clueless

Throughout my life I felt that I have somewhat kept up with all the new social media. From myspace, instant message, facebook, and I even remember having a xanga. But after being in this class for 3 weeks now I realized I am absolutely clueless on probably 75% of what students these days are using. First of all, let me get it off my chest that I do not have a twitter, I have absolutely no clue how twitter works, and to be honest with you all, I am just not interested in creating a twitter. Why you might ask? Well for one, I find it interesting to tell people that I do not have a twitter. I do have a facebook and I could not imagine not having one of those and I am sure some people can not imagine having a twitter. Anyway, I have put some thought into creating a twitter. Not because I want to know what people are doing, but because I am more interested in following celebrity tweets. I would rather know what Riff Raff or Paul Rodriguez has in mind for a tweet than my friends.

One of the reasons that I do not have a twitter account is the lack of knowledge I have about twitter. Can you post pictures on twitter? Can you just simply like posts on twitter? These are some of the things I am unclear about.

Anyway, I am sure by the end of this semester this class will influence me into creating a twitter account. So far, I have realized that twitter is very beneficial while being a college student. I noticed that Ball State announces important things that students may be interested, or things they actually need to know.
