Culture of Food

We examined the culture of food. One of the ways we examined the culture of food was through watching the documentary “Food Inc.” This documentary offered a look into the production of food and people’s relationship with it. It showcased the different methods of producing food. The film alarmed us to the fact that animals are being genetically modified. They are not supposed to end up the way that they are appearing. It is not natural. This film made me think about my life. It made me not want to eat meat again. I have not had meat since I watched this film. This might be a permanent lifestyle change. Others that I have spoken to about this film said they became vegetarians after viewing it. They could not deal with meat after learning about the processes and conditions that the animals are living in. When I saw the chicken coup, I felt bad for the chickens. The conditions are deplorable. Animals should not be living in these type of conditions Animals should be free. They should not be eaten. We are all connected in the great circle of life. I understand that becoming vegetarian could lead to overpopulation of animals. The animals are not being removed by humans as much from the ecosystem. They are only being taken out by other animals. I have now eaten a lot of salads since viewing this film. Therefore the switch to a vegetarian diet is a healthy one. It promotes eating green vegetables. There are important nutrients in these foods. I will find protein sources from other food items that don’t contain meat.
