Women in sports have been a side topic to the news
of sports ever since it came out. There is growing momentum and publicity for
women’s sports but nowhere near that of men’s. The question with women’s sports
tends to be the incapability of women outlasting men in certain sports and
becoming more physically stronger and smarter.
This is a growing trend with women as many are starting to do certain
actions which women did not ever seem to reach 10 years ago.
Take sensation Brittney Grinner and Maya Moore of
Women’s basketball. Both are excellent
basketball players but we question what these individuals did in order to
become so good at basketball. Some say
that these individuals are men and others say steroids came into the picture
with them. Why can’t we just accept that these women have trained diligently throughout
their lives and have earned where they are now.
One major issue with critics of women’s sports is,
women are good with everyone and no problems occur until the women start
excelling in the sport. For instance,
Danica Patrick is an adored fan by many race car enthusiasts and she is seen as
the face for women in NASCAR. The
difference is she has not won any races or taken any major trophies from men. Imagine
if she won many races and dominated the playing field she was in, would she
still be loved and adored by her loyal fans? Instead people would question her
on how she got so good at driving a race car and the only exceptional reality
with the logic is she must have cheated or gave herself an advantage.
This is a major problem with women sports and there
is only two ways to go either be an average player and people will like you, or
excel in the sport you play in and receive scrutiny all the time and be judged
by critics.
