Video Games are bad.....mmhmmkk.

But not really.

For the past 20 years, video games have been the latest attempt to scapegoat violence in this country, or even this world for that matter. Before video games it was Rock N Roll, then TV, then radio, then who knows. Maybe years from now they will say tablets and smart phones, 3DTVs, Justin Beiber, whatever.

Video games don't make people more violent, studies have proven that, HOWEVER, I do believe that video games contribute to people being more tolerate to violence or gore. But I think this dehumanizing of violence has been going on since societies were first formed. Every generation is less conservative than the one before it. Video games, like I said, I believe just contribute to that, not become the sole reason for it. Violence is everywhere. TV, movies, music, Halloween costumes, everything. It's not just video games.

One thing people may be seeming to forget is that video games have age-restrictions on them, just like movies. When I was 17 and 18, I was carded when trying to buy MATURE rated games that had a lot of violence in them. There is a certain responsibility on the parents to monitor their kids and make sure they are not buying them violent games. I never purchased a game for myself until I was 16 and had my driver's license and a job. By that time, I had a pretty well established concept of right and wrong. Despite playing the Grand Theft Auto series, I was able to recognize what is fake and what is real. Had I been playing those games from the age of 7 or 8, maybe there could have been a more significant impact, but no 7 or 8 year old should be able to get their hands on a game like that if their parents are paying attention.

I just think video games are just the latest scapegoat in the blame game whenever violence occurs. People always want answers, they want a reason why bad things happen so they can correct them. While the next teen shooter may have spent a lot of time playing Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, you can bet next president 20 years from now played those games as well.
