I thought our class discussion from last Thursday's class was a very interesting one. When we started to talk about the News Media's bias I 100% took the part of the News Media being very bias on what they cover about the war.
There is no question that what a lot of these news reporters are covering is good news but also I believe a lot of what they are covering is being skewed to what the corporate suits believe should be shown. We always think of our soldiers doing nothing but good over in the war because all we ever hear about is the good things we have accomplished. However, just like every other country not all that we are doing is good. But lets be realistic, the suits are going to make their reporters cover whatever will get them the best ratings.
Money is one major factor on what each news media covers. Money drives everything in our society and ratings equals money. So of course there is going to be a bias in what these reporters are saying on air. If you tune in to Fox News they are clearly going to have a more conservative based broadcast and information. If they decided to take a liberal view on something they will most likely lose viewers resulting in losing money. Nobody at Fox News wants that.
So of course what we cover in the News Media will be biased someway or another. As an inspiring journalist the number one thing we all want is viewers on our programs. So if our boss at corporate is saying I want you to cover so an so. Your response will almost always be yes sir and do what they want. They are paying your salary and you aren't going to tell them no. It might be not considered ethical by some but the beautiful thing about our country is if you don't like the broadcast you have the right to turn the channel.
