Helping Others Eat Healthy; A Call to Arms!
I hope this post will be an encouragement to all of those health conscious vegan/vegetarian/organic/knowledgable etc. people. I am NOT one of these people. I am the guy who mentioned in class how glorious it is to eat a McChicken sandwiched in between a McDouble (I won't mention the unofficial name of this sandwich due to the sexual nature of the reference). And for only $2! I won't back down - that IS glorious! Everybody should go try it if you haven't. However, I know that I am literally killing my body. The kicker is this - I don't care. I want to care, but I don't. So I am the person that McDonald's and the fast food industry (and the corporate food industry) absolutely LOVE. How do I escape? I am not one of those people who is caught in a financial cycle (yet) but I am caught in a psychological cycle of apathy toward my own health. The solution? - My awesome girlfriend who cares about me and my long-term health more than I care about myself. It literally hurts her to see me eat unhealthy :( This made me realize that one of the primary solutions to battling unhealthy decisions is actually loving those around you - friends and family. Healthy people - NAG your loved ones to eat better! Not just to prove a point or boost your ego, but because you actually care about them. Support your desires for them to eat healthy with facts about WHY they should should eat healthy and HOW they can eat healthy. Make sure that you communicate a loving tone that has its foundations in truly caring about them, and not just trying to recruit people to make you feel better about yourself as a person. This is where change will happen! Think grass roots people!
