Going Organic

After today’s class got out, all I could think about was how bad I wanted some sort of fast food.  As someone who could eat pizza every day of my life, it is hard to support a movement towards organic foods becoming the sought after form of food.  However, that is not to say that I agree with the process by which our food reaches our plate today.  Although I have already seen Food Inc., I am really looking forward to seeing it again on Thursday with a new perspective adopted from our conversations in class.  As much as I do believe that certain aspects of the food industry must be changed, I’m unsure of how to go about bringing these changes.
The reason I’m somewhat skeptical on how to administer changes to the food industry is because as much as some people want to transition to healthier, more organic based foods, there will be others on the opposite end of the spectrum that like things just the way they are.  America as a whole is somewhat ignorant.  By that I mean that until someone takes the initiative to shed light on certain situations, we could care less about how things are done.  As much as I would like to see the food industry head in a more health conscious direction, and even more humane direction when considering the meat industry (slaughterhouses etc), I just do not find it plausible that if this were to happen that purely organically grown foods could sustain an ever growing population like the one we have today.  The unfortunate matter of fact is that the population is going to do nothing but continue to grow, creating what I believe may be the biggest barrier to a large scale health oriented food industry transition.
