Disney Culture

I think when looking at Disney movies, we must always consider that the reason these movies were created was purely for entertainment purposes for our youth. When we look at the nitty-gritty details like what race a specific character was or what clothing a specific character was wearing; we are trying to over analyze the general purpose of this piece of media. When were looking at the nitty-gritty details of these movies, we are fulfilling our self-fulfilling prophecy by trying to find all the flaws possible so that we can prevent our kids from watching these movies. We are overlooking all the positive aspects of these movies. Generally most Disney movies are based on moral lessons that are kids should learn. Sometimes critics criticize Disney movies for their subliminal messages, I feel like the subliminal messages are necessary for the older audiences to keep them entertained. Most five and six-year-olds do not go to the movies by themselves; an adult usually accompanies them. These subliminal messages are designed to keep the older viewers engaged and entertained. Most of these subliminal messages go unnoticed by the younger audiences. I remember when I was a little kid I was obsessed with Aladdin. I think I have watched that movie over 100 times during my adolescence and not once did I catch the subliminal message on the balcony. I only found out about this message when I got to college and analyze the movie thoroughly. Knowing that there was a subliminal message in Aladdin does not hinder my feelings about that movie. Disney movies are like standup comedians, they might be inappropriate for some but the bottom line is that it is just entertainment and should not be taken seriously.
