I think the past couple years there has been a push to wear snapback hats. Snapbacks are somehow being worn more then the top of the line item New Era offers which is called the 59fifty model. Why is this so? I mean some rappers come up with a song and start to wear them but why? The reason from Chris Brown and Tyga is that they were listening to some of their influences from the 90s like NWA and wanted to bring back that look. They claim that they probably aren't the first people to try and bring it back but it begs the question "Why is it catching on?" I mean most of us college students were listening to Barney music or watching Sesame Street so we don't really know too much 90s rap.
I believe that a handful of artistic listeners and rappers wanted to take some of the old style and mix it with their new one. Velcro strap shoes and snapbacks with modern shirt, coat, and accesory styles.
This affects their listeners, which happens to be a lot of people seeing as how rap is huge, are copying the style either because they're favorite artists is wearing it, or because theyre friends are wearing it. The true reason is lost among many fans of these modern rappers. I personally do not wear snapbacks but still respect many rappers from the 90s. Essentially they laid the groundwork for rap today. What is odd is that this style is reletively cheap due to the fact that there still is a following for top of the line aithentic hats (59fifty) that athletes wear.
