Funny Women in Society

Today in class we discussed why women are not funny according to some opinions. Women in society have always been the ones that play the hard to get role and if a guy is trying to “hit” on a girl he has to come across somewhat funny for him to even have a chance. That is one thing I did agree with that Hitchens stated. He hit that right on the head. When men go to talk to girls they’ve never met before, the first thing they do is try to get them to smile or laugh. Women never approach men and try to get a laugh out of them. But, this doesn’t mean that women can’t be funny at all. There are some very funny women in Hollywood today. Melissa McCarthy is a prime example. She was hilarious in the Saturday Night Live skits we watched and she also played a very funny role in Bridesmaids. Tiny Fey is also a very funny woman in media. Unfortunately I don’t know of any stand-up comedians that are women, but that is because I don’t watch too much stand-up to begin with, but I am sure there are funny ones out there. Women can be funny, they just have to do it in a different way and sometimes those are the ways that actually make them funny. Some guys’ look for girls to be funny in order to create relationships with them, others don’t care. Being funny is definitely a perk in a girl I take into consideration. Any girl with a good sense of humor is always good to have. Media just portrays it differently and I really think that some women are funny, it al just comes down to how they do it and what they do that makes them funny.
